Michel Huneault a débuté sa carrière de photographe de reportage il y a 10 ans, alors qu’il oeuvrait dans le milieu du développement international et de la résolution de conflits. En 2004 il a été l’apprenti et l’assistant de Gilles Peress de l’agence Magnum à à New York. C’est en 2008 qu’il a décidé de faire le grand saut et de se dévouer pleinement à son travail photographique.

Récipiendaire d’une mention honorable des Prix PX3 de Paris en 2009 et fort des honneurs des prix Lux en 2005 et 2009, le travail de Michel Huneault s'inscrit dans la tradition de la photographie documentaire et humaniste tout en trouvant un écho dans le monde de l’art contemporain tant par son esthétique que par la complexité de son propos. Il cherche à poser un regard actuel et sensible sur les grands enjeux sociaux reliés au développement local, international et à la résolution de conflits.

Michel Huneault started doing professional documentary photography progressively over the last
10 years, while working and studying in international development and peace building settings. In 2004, he was
apprentice and assistant for Gilles Peress, Magnum Photo, in New York City. In 2008, he was finally able to
take the beau risque and quit his day job, as to dedicate himself to photography on a full time basis. His work is
inspired by documentary and humanistic photography traditions, confronted with the aesthetics and inquiring
doubts of contemporary art forms. Huneault’s long-term work looks at contemporary social issues linked to
development and peace (or war).
